In Modesto, the breakfast crowd peaks on Saturday and Sunday mornings, so a weekday visit or an early arrival avoids the line. Across California, regional staples show up on the menu: biscuits and gravy and chicken and waffles in the South, breakfast tacos and burritos in Texas and the Southwest, green chile in New Mexico, and Hawaiian plate breakfasts in the islands. Check the listing for hours, whether the restaurant takes reservations and its Google rating and reviews, and note that many diners are cash-friendly but nearly all take cards. Counter seating usually moves faster than a table for one or two.

Picassoโs is celebrating 25 years in Modesto this year and I got to try one of their sandwiches on my recent visit to this area. The owners of this place are super nice and friendly, welcoming each guest with a pleasant smile and a good conversation. They also offered the patio for my dog, where he and I enjoyed the beautiful outdoor setup in the intersection of J and 10th. Kingman is the sandwich I got. Perfectly made with a nice combination of chicken, pesto, and avocado. It was delicious and aptly filling. Highly recommend this restaurant, will come back again.

Picasso's has very delicious sandwiches and an interesting collection of old art paintings printed on the wooden dining tables, the owner claims to have personally made each of these tables by hand, Its beautiful to enjoy while devouring my Kingman sandwich. Great location in the heart of downtown modesto with shaded outdoor seating.

I used to be a regular but I moved ๐. As much as I have seen Downtown Modesto change, I hope Picassoโs stays for as long as possible. Everything they make here is fresh daily. The owners, Jordi & Margarita as well as the staff, put so much love and thought into this business. They are the heart of it. It is more than a gourmet deli. Itโs an art gallery (if Iโm not mistaken, Jordi has hand crafted much of the art that is on display. Even the tables!), local lunch spot, and if you get to know them, they really make you feel at home. Now letโs get to the food ๐: the lunch specials are the best. Any sandwich you get is going to be amazing. On this day, I ordered the portobello panini. It was so flawless. The cheese was melted, the portobello was the perfect temperature and texture, and the veggies were crisp. It paired perfectly with the tomato soup. I also ordered an iced white mocha to get me through the day. I will always recommend Picassoโs for lunch if you are in downtown.

I donโt even know where to begin. The service is amazing, the staff is incredibly kind, the food is 10/10, the coffee is also 10/10 and the place is really nice and clean. The art they have on display is beautiful. When it comes to waiting for your order, it hardly even feels like a wait because the food is served within a matter of a few minutes. Thereโs so much I can say, but overall the food and environment just feels really authentic, which is why I love coming here. Itโs only been my second time, but I havenโt been disappointed at all. Everything Iโve had has only left me wanting to come back even more. If you like Starbucks sandwiches, then you will without a doubt, like the food this place has to offer even more. I recommended this place 100%.
